Student Success Technologies

Formed in 2022, the Office of Student Success Technologies (SST) leads undergraduate academic advising and undergraduate student success initiatives at VCU. We provide holistic and centralized professional development support, and in a variety of learning modalities, for our academic advising community. This enables us to stay current with VCU policies and procedures, enhance our knowledge and skills as scholar-practitioners, and support each other’s career development.

Our work is backed by a lineup of Banner-supported student management systems. The upkeep and training of these systems are either supported by our office (i.e. Student Educational Planner) or housed directly with us (i.e. Navigate and Advising Tools). In everything that we do, we aim to promote a culture of evidence-based practice and continuous improvement in academic advising. We accomplish this goal in the following ways:

  1. Hosting ongoing professional development
  2. Promoting collaboration among advising units including interdepartmental networking and peer support
  3. Identifying and disseminating research on advising best practices
  4. Advocating for the recognition and support of our advising community
