UAAB Committees
All members of UAAB are welcome and encouraged to join a committee. Being a part of a committee is a great way to get involved, meet other advisors on campus and help shape the advising community at VCU. The current UAAB Committees are:
Advertises the UAAB awards, reviews nominations, and presents the awards each year
- Plans and executes the annual VCU Advising Conference
- Brings in advisors and staff from VCU and beyond to present on and learn from conference sessions related to best practices for academic advising
Promotes and supports the efforts of formal mentor/mentee relationships
- Recruits experienced mentors from the VCU advising community
- Recruits new members of the VCU advising community as mentees
- Hosts annual pairing event for mentors and mentees to meet one another
Plans and hosts a variety of events for the advising community to help advisors learn more about advising theory and philosophy and career growth and development
Plans social events, volunteer opportunities, and other ways to help connect advisors
Creates student-focused events to understand how advising can better serve our students
Help maintain online resources and coordinates technology and training needs for advisors
Visit new advisors in their office within their first couple weeks at the university to make connections and help them acclimate to VCU. Assist in planning and executing a semesterly lunch for new advisors across the university. Collaborate on ideas and projects to help new advisors settle into the university and connect with others.
